Most IMG applications fail in the preparation

Australian hospitals assess applications against explicit criteria. Your experience must be translated into evidence that answers those criteria.

Apply to the right roles first

The first question is not only, “Can I do this job?” It is whether this is the right role, employer and stage for your present profile. Registration position, recency, scope, level, supervision and location can all change the answer.

Write to the assessment criteria

A cover letter should not be a shorter version of the CV. It should connect the employer’s requirements to relevant evidence from your work. Generic applications make the selection panel do the interpretation for you.

A strong background can still be overlooked when the application does not make the match visible.

Prepare the whole application

Your CV, cover letter, selection-criteria responses, referees, LinkedIn profile and interview story should reinforce the same professional position. Contradictions or unexplained gaps create uncertainty. Consistency builds confidence.

Measure quality, not volume

Before sending another application, ask whether the role is genuinely suitable and whether every document is tailored to that opportunity. Fewer well-targeted applications can be more useful than repeating the same generic submission.
