Many IMGs reach a point where they have qualifications, documents and submitted applications—but no responses, interviews or clear direction. It is natural to blame the CV, the market, the hospital, the visa or bad luck. Sometimes one of those issues matters. Very often, the deeper problem is sequencing.
Three reasons progress stalls
1. The target does not match the current stage
Not every role, employer, location or pathway is realistic at every point. This does not diminish your clinical ability. It means the profile and the opportunity may not yet align.
2. The evidence does not tell a coherent story
Qualifications, recency, scope, gaps, supervision, references and career direction need to work together. If they create unanswered questions, the assessor must carry the risk of interpretation.
3. Activity has replaced diagnosis
More applications can feel productive, but repeating an unsuitable approach creates more silence. A useful review identifies the actual bottleneck and the next action that addresses it.
The next correct step
A stalled pathway is not necessarily a hopeless one. It may simply mean that the current barrier has not been correctly identified. Diagnose the stage, the target and the evidence before deciding what to do next.
